Biography of E. Clifton Davis

E. Clifton Davis (Ellis), the name with which he was born, is 67 years old. Ellis has been a professional casino gambler for a quarter century, exclusively playing Baccarat and Blackjack. “They complement each other well,” says Ellis “because the casino is most vulnerable in these two games at different times of the day. We then ‘turn the tables’ and use the casinos’ own orchestration techniques against them.”

Ellis was raised in the corporate world and held key positions at General Electric, General Dynamics, Singer, Diebold and Revere. He holds degrees in Engineering , Architecture, and Business. Upon his retirement, he became a Professor of Engineering and Mathematics at S.U.N.Y.---one of the largest universities in the world.

Ellis discovered and introduced “Break Card Clumping”, explaining to professional and student mathematicians why casino profits in BJ far surpassed the statistical norm. Not long after, he unintentionally proved his point, playing BJ and Baccarat full time in A.C. for three years without a single losing day. This was a personal record never matched by any player before or since. “I chose A.C. because it was the toughest game in the world.” This infamous event blacklisted him with virtually every casino on the globe. “I had statisticians recording every game and the casinos did as well. A band of blue coats with clip boards followed me everywhere I went. But I got the data I needed.” He then wrote NBJ (New Blackjack) a systematic way of exploiting this new mathematical information in casino blackjack. Then, he wrote WCB (World Class BJ), an automated approach to NBJ. “Don’t forget. I wrote the world’s first Baccarat system too---The 2UC. The casinos still have a tough time with that one! ” In total, sales of his writings have exceeded those of all of his competition combined. “That was before the internet was invented!”

Ellis has performed both BJ and Baccarat casino exhibitions for huge audiences without ever losing a single one. “Whew. Some of those games really had me worried. I won $10,000 in 20 minutes in front of 200 people. They actually all lost money. Now, any card counter will tell you that’s impossible! And…I agree…for a card counter! I don’t care how many ridiculous movies they make. I never got any more challenges after that.”

Today he has introduced another Davis first: he only accepts students for life. “Look, it’s just not fair to give them one system and expect them to go out and beat the whole casino world. That’s just not going to happen. It’s only a question of time before the casino figures out how to beat that system. I want the time with my students to really teach them, to really prepare them. I want them to know every trick of the trade. You can keep getting better at this forever. I’m still getting better. My students will too! It’s a real happy family so far! The players like it!
